Therein lies the dilemma that faces me at this time every year. There are those who might suggest, with some justification no doubt, that I'm just lazy. Gardening is hard work and like housework -- another activity of which I'm not overly fond -- it never ends. Flowerbeds must be weeded and worked up before they can be planted. Perennials must be split. Planting itself is back-breaking for someone who can't kneel. And just when you feel the satisfaction of completing that, it's time to start weeding again. There are pots to tote, endless weighty bags of potting soil, peat moss, manure and mulch to carry, empty and spread. Once the plants start to mature, some must be staked, others dead-headed or suckered. Some must be enclosed by chicken wire to prevent critters from eating them. Others must be replanted ...
